THE LOUIS VUITTON 37TH AMERICA’S CUP
As the official Defender of the America’s Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand hosted the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup between August and October 2024 in the beating heart of beautiful Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and one of the most visited cities on planet Earth. Situated around Port Vell and along the beach to Port Olímpic, the sailing world has made Barcelona their home for what was one of the most intense America’s Cups in the event’s 173-year history.
The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Match was preceded by an action-packed Challenger Selection Series–the Louis Vuitton Cup–seeing five Challengers competing for the spot in the prestigious Match.
Further events such as the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup and the AC E-Sailing Championship opened the doors to a wide variety of competitors as well as audiences. The highly anticipated inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup introduced a dedicated women’s event to the history of the Cup–a summer of sailing that has made waves.

THE HOST VENUE
BARCELONAThe cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region–known worldwide for its art, architecture and vibrancy–was shining bright by welcoming the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and its teams. All team bases were located within the Port Vell area and surrounded by the America’s Cup Race Village where tens of thousands of spectators were accommodated daily. The racecourse, just outside the port entrance breakwaters, was set in front of a number of FanZones and beach viewing platforms to provide the perfect vista.

THE TEAMS
1 DEFENDER, 5 CHALLENGERSAfter having won the America’s Cup in Auckland in 2021 again, Emirates Team New Zealand were the Defenders of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. Sailing under the flag of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS), Emirates Team New Zealand were aiming to retain the Cup for the third consecutive time.
INEOS Britannia, sailing for the Royal Yacht Squadron Ltd., under the British flag, was the official Challenger of Record. Joined by four other teams, Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland), Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (Italy), American Magic (USA), and Orient Express Racing Team (France), the Challengers lined up for a fierce competition for the ‘Auld Mug’.

PRELIMINARY REGATTA
VILANOVA I LA GELTRÚ, ESPThe journey to the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona began with the Preliminary Regattas that served as warm-up races ahead of the Louis Vuitton Cup (Challenger Selection Series).
Vilanova i La Geltrú welcomed the America’s Cup world from 14 to 17 September 2023. The regatta was raced in the strict one-design AC40s–the world’s newest and most exciting foiling class with top speeds touching 50 knots and beyond. -
PRELIMINARY REGATTA
JEDDAH, KSAThe America's Cup Preliminary Regatta Jeddah, presented by NEOM in Saudi Arabia, saw the top sailors from the America’s Cup teams compete against each other in equally matched AC40 monohull foilers again. The impressive sailing conditions on the Red Sea provided a world-class sailing event from 29 November to 2 December 2023.
Emirates Team New Zealand led the scoreboard and took away the win at the final match race against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. -
PRELIMINARY REGATTA
BARCELONA, ESPFrom 22 to 25 August 2024, the final Preliminary Regatta took place in Barcelona. It was once again Emirates Team New Zealand who topped the leaderboard. This time, all teams raced in their brand new AC75s, giving an early indication of what was about to unfold in the journey to the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup Barcelona.

DOUBLE ROUND ROBIN
29 AUG – 07 SEPT 2024The qualification for the Semi-Final of the top four Challengers was based on their race results between each other. One Challenger was eliminated after the Round Robins.
As the Defender of the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand automatically progressed to the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup Match after Round Robin 2. -
SEMI-FINALS
14 – 19 SEPTEMBER 2024As the highest-placed Challenger in the Round Robins, INEOS Britannia got to choose their opponent in the Semi-Final as well as their preference on start time and position.
To win this stage, the first to win 5 races advanced to the Final stage – one step closer to the ultimate goal. -
FINAL
26 SEPT – 05 OCT 2024The Louis Vuitton Cup Final was held as a best-of-13 Match, meaning it takes 7 wins to advance.
The winner of this stage would become the official Challenger of the Louis Vuitton Cup 37th America’s Cup and meet Emirates Team New Zealand in the Match for the coveted trophy – the America’s Cup.

UNICREDIT YOUTH AMERICA’S CUP
NEXT AT THE HELMAll six of the confirmed entries for the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup were fielding UniCredit Youth America’s Cup teams. Additionally, six further teams were invited to join the regatta: Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Australia also competed to showcase their claims to succeed in the fleet races and hopefully duel in the final match race.
Racing in each event took place in the world’s most exciting new foiling class–the AC40–and maximum exposure was guaranteed for the next generation of talent.The future is now.

PUIG WOMEN’S AMERICA’S CUP
WINDS OF CHANGEExcitement was building in Barcelona for what was expected to be the closest of regattas with the inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup attracting the world’s greatest sailors for the first ever staging of this all-female America’s Cup. Teams, boats, and format were the same as what we had seen in the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup.
The Puig Women’s America’s Cup set a new standard for inclusivity and excellence in the sport.

THERE IS NO SECONDFrom 12 to 19 October 2024 the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand faced INEOS Britannia, the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup (Challenger Selection Series), in a 13-race Match.
After nine intense and closely fought match races, Emirates Team New Zealand won the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup for the third consecutive time, sealing the team's spot as the most successful team in the history of the America's Cup.

AC E-SERIES
A NEW CHALLENGEThousands of virtual sailors from around the globe competed in intense online qualifying rounds, culminating in a thrilling Grand Final in Barcelona on 28 September 2024. Eight elite players from seven countries went head-to-head for the title of the first-ever America's Cup e-Series Champion, and the ultimate chance to sail an AC40–in real life!
AC Sailing®, the ultimate sailing simulation video game created by the America's Cup, is based on the simulator software used by the sailing team to enhance their experience and train on land. -
NGĀTI WHĀTUA ŌRĀKEI
TE KAWAUNgāti Whātua Ōrākei presented Te Kawau, a traditional Māori waka alongside Taihoro in Barcelona. Each race day, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei would guide the sailors to the ocean and inspire their spirit with a haka and waiata performed during the dock-out show.
Named after the kawau bird, symbolising endurance and deep connection to the ocean, Te Kawau embodies the spirit of unity between Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Emirates Team New Zealand.
