Matteo de Nora joined Team New Zealand after the 2000 America's Cup, when he founded the Mates Group of supporters. In 2003, he met Grant Dalton and committed to the team, increasing his involvement over the years. As Team Principal, Matteo was active in planning and implementing the team’s participation in the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race and the following America’s Cup campaigns.
During his association, the team has won the America’s Cup twice (2017 and 2021), three Louis Vuitton Cups (2007, 2013, and 2017), the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, the Louis Vuitton Trophy regattas (2009-2010), as well as the very competitive MedCup season championships in 2009 and 2010.
Matteo has participated in many sports over the years. He is an experienced yachtsman, having sailed extensively all over the world’s great oceans. In 2011, the New Zealand Government honoured Matteo with a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to New Zealand’s America’s Cup campaigns and for medical research in neurology.
