Dan is an English engineer who holds a PhD in Mathematical Modelling and Aerodynamics, backed up with a Masters from Cambridge University. He worked at McLaren Formula 1 for six years, leading their Vehicle Modelling team, before swapping fast cars for fast boats. He has worked as yacht designer, specialising in hydrodynamic design and performance optimisation in the 32nd America’s Cup for Team Germany, and the 33rd for Team Alinghi.  

Dan came to Emirates Team New Zealand after the break-up of Alinghi in 2010 and he was the Technical Director of the design team for the winning campaign of the 35th America's Cup in 2017 and 36th America's Cup in 2021. He will keep leading the design team for the 2nd Defence of the Cup in 2024.
