FAREWELL CARLO

Emirates Team New Zealand is deeply saddened by the passing of Carlo Borlenghi, one of sailing’s greatest photographers.

Carlo was much more than the man behind the camera. To many within Emirates Team New Zealand and throughout the international sailing community, he was also a dear friend.

For more than four decades, he documented the defining moments of our sport. He had a rare instinct for being in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment. Through his lens, a manoeuvre, a wave, a look between sailors, or the emotion of victory became timeless.

From local regattas on Lake Como to the 1983 America’s Cup in Newport, his photographs of Azzurra, the Italian challenge, marked the start of a relationship with the event that would last over 40 years.

His work took him far beyond the America’s Cup. Carlo covered round-the-world races, the Olympic Games, offshore classics, and major international regattas. Through his body of work, he helped shape the history of the sport and the way generations of people saw and understood sailing.

Our thoughts are with Carlo’s wife, Alessandra, his family, his colleagues at Studio Borlenghi, and his many friends around the world.

The sailing community has lost one of its best storytellers, but Carlo’s legacy will live on through the moments he captured and the memories he created.

Farewell, Carlo. You will be missed.
