Skipper Dean Barker expects stiffer opposition from Luna Rossa today when they meet on the water for the third time in the Louis Vuitton Cup round robbins.
“Luna Rossa has done a lot of work over the past week on their development and will have further improved. We’re keen to find out by how much.”
The team is racing with the crew that faced Luna Rossa last Sunday: Dean Barker, Glenn Ashby, Adam Beashel, Ray Davies, James Dagg, Jeremy Lomas, Chris McAsey, Grant Dalton, Derek Saward, Rob Waddell and Chris Ward.
Weather forecasters are predicting a breeze in the mid-to-high teens, perhaps higher and close to the limit, depending on how quickly the cloud burns off. Tidal current will not be an issue today, with a fading flood tide and slack water during the race.
For trimmer James Dagg, today’s start will be key. “Get away cleanly and fast because there will be very few passing lanes out there.”
